November 29, December 1 holiday, December 2

Good Morning Year 9.  I'm a bit under the weather this week and have a touch of laryngitis.  Don't worry, it's not contagious!!!

Let's try to finish by the end of class on December 2;-)

1.  Follow your Plan
2.  Create your website
3.  Write a paragraph(s) to explain if your Plan worked.  Write a paragraph to explain the need for any modification you made.

Learning objective - The student will: use appropriate techniques and equipment competently, follow the plan to produce the product/solution with minimal guidance, review the plan and explain any changes to the plan (when necessary), create a product/solution of appropriate quality.

November 17, 18

Now is the moment that we have all been waiting for . . .

CREATE - Criterion D Maximum 6
Students are expected to document, with a series of photographs or a video and a dated record, the process of making their product/solution, including when and how they use tools, materials and techniques. Students are expected to follow their plan, to evaluate the plan and to justify any changes they make to the plan while they are creating the product/solution.

Learning objective:  The student will:  use appropriate techniques and equipment competently; ensure a safe working environment for themselves and others; follow the plan to produce the product/solution with minimal guidance; review the plan and explain any changes to the plan (when necessary); create a product/solution of appropriate quality.
To get a 6 the student: uses appropriate techniques and equipment. The student follows the majority of the plan and mentions any modifications made, resulting in a product/solution of appropriate quality using the resources available.

Year 9 - Let's continue with the PLAN today.

Your PLAN - Criterion C should include:
1.  List of Resources
2.  Step by Step Plan
3.  Paragraph evaluating Plan (saying why you think your plan will work.  Remember to discuss the tutorial that you did and the html page that you created;-)  Ask someone to check your plan and include the feedback.

Learning objective - The student will: devise a series of logical steps to create the product/solution; construct a plan to create the product/solution that makes effective use of resources and time.

November 8, 10, 11

Welcome back Year 9.  Hope you had a great half-term;-)

Remember that it all starts with a PLAN - Criterion C.

According to the IBO:  Students are expected to construct a plan to create their chosen product/solution that has a series of logical steps and that makes effective use of resources and time.

Students are expected to evaluate the plan and justify any modifications to the design.

To get a 5/6:
The student produces a plan that contains a number of logical steps that include resources and time.
The student evaluates the plan and attempts to justify any modifications to the design.

Today I would like you to:
1. Create a list of all the "Resources" that you will need the day you create your website.
2. Create a step-by-step plan to create your website - include the approximate time you will need to complete each step.

Learning objective - The student will: devise a series of logical steps to create the product/solution; construct a plan to create the product/solution that makes effective use of resources and time.

Year 9 - Let's finish up our designs and documentation this week.

Remember that you need to;
1.  check and see if each design actually meets your design specification and write a sentence/sentences stating that they DO meet your design specification or make a chart showing your design specification.

The sentence can be as simple as this:  Design 1 meets my design specification because it includes all 5 stages of the design cycle, is colourful and is kid-friendly.  (This is the sentence from the Year 7 project;-) Or you can create a chart based on the one below.

Finally, choose 1 design and evaluate it fully and critically against the design specification.

Learning Objective: generate several feasible designs that meet the design specification; evaluate the designs against the specification; select one design and justify its choice.

Sunday, October 17, 2010

October 18, 20, 21

Year 9,

Design - Criterion B:
  • Generate 3 possible solutions (web page layouts) to meet the need (Design Specification) that will use the information you have gathered appropriately.
  • Evaluate each against the Design Specification
  • Choose best design idea and justify it
I would like you to consider :  Graphics, Layout, Colour Choice, Background, Font.

Learning Objective:  The student will: generate a range of designs that attempt to meet the design specifications; compare the designs against the design specifications and identify the pros and cons of each design; select one design and explain its choice.

Well done Year 9.  We are moving right along here.

Before we move on, let's look at the Investigate template.  Now open your Investigations and make sure your Investigation has your name at the top of the page and follows this template.  Next, I would like to collect these from you today on my flash-pen;-)

Then on to the DESIGN - Criterion B. First we need to look at the assessment criterion - http://www.box.net/shared/bqgkc1ri7t

Now, we need to get an idea about what constitutes good webpage design.
http://www.ratz.com/features.html

Finally, it's your turn.

Learning Objective: The student will generate several feasible designs that meet the design specification; evaluate the designs against the specification; select one design andjustify its choice.

October 4, 6

Formulate a Design Specification
Year 9  - 2 tasks today

1.  Vocab quiz.  Match the terms to its definition.

2.  Formulate a Design Specification.  Based on your research you should have a good idea about what you want to include in your web page.

The IBO says that the design specification is "A detailed description of the conditions, requirements and restrictions with which a design must comply. This is a precise and accurate list of facts such as conditions, dimensions, materials, process and methods that are important for the designer and for the user. All appropriate solutions will need to comply with the design specification."

Include a detailed list of 5 specifications.

Then create a test that will help you evaluate your product/solution in Criterion E - Evaluate.

Learning Objective: The student will list, with liited guidance, the specific requirements that must be met by the product/solution and design, with limited guidance, tests to evaluate the product/solution against the design specification.

September 23

Year 9 - I have included a page with Term 1 vocabulary. You are responsible for this. We will have a quiz on this vocabulary.
Then, continue on with your Investigation. Don't forget to:

-Research the author/artist/musician/historical figure that you have chosen. (Select images, you tube links, texts, etc. that you will include (or possibly inlcude) on your page.

- Research 3 similar websites to gain ideas for your own page and analyze findings (look at colour scheme, images, text, links, organization).

Learning Objective: The Student will (A3) ask relevant questions, (A5) collect and select information, organize it logically and, with guidance, begin to analyse it.

September 20, 22

Year 9, Now let's continue on to the 2nd task in the Investigation
Now, let's continue with the Investigation:-)

Develop a Design Brief
-Create questions to "drive" your investigation - (some logical questions that would have you research HTML to fully understand it-What is HTML? Who created HTML and why? How does HTML work?) Don't worry about doing a tutorial at the time because we will do one a little later in the term.

- Research the author/artist/musician/historical figure that you have chosen.
